Soul, salsa, funk, blues... and all that jazz

It is a beautifully sunshine-y day and I am aching to lay in the grass listening to some sweet licks while the rays scorch my shoulders and the mosquitoes feast on the delicious fire running through my veins. Alas, the 27th annual Saskatchewan Jazz Festival came to a bittersweet close last night and I am simply reliving every moment with the tunes blasting from my computer. After 10 solid days of music, love, inspiration, crazy connections and dancing like a mad woman, I'm sure my body could use the break even if my soul is crying out for more.

My top pick of the festival, hands down, was the incredibly moving performance by Micheal Franti & Spearhead who helped a crowd of nearly 3000 new best friends to embrace the whole world in a giant bear-hug and celebrate in our intense awesomeness. Honourable mentions go to Wil Campa y su Gran Union, and Pile of Bones Brass Band for continuing their legacies of awesome. Best "new-to-me" band was Red Baraat. WOW! WOW! WOW! These guys sure know how to throw a party!! I'll definitely be indulging in some of their music soon and often.

If you too crave more of the great tunes thrown out the past week and a half, check out the downloadable sampler with 24 tracks from this year's artists. Here is a short clip I took at Michael Franti. Enjoy!!

Well friends, the Regina Folk Festival  is a mere 5.5 weeks away... who's up for a roadtrip? ;)
